Project Summary:
Wessex Love Songs is a recital celebrating Thomas Hardy’s Poetry in Art Song over the last 100 years. Alongside new arrangements of music setting Hardy by canonic composers are new commissions, including 'Elegies or Emma' a cycle setting Hardy’s Poems of 1912-13 which elegise Hardy’s complex reaction to the death of his first wife Emma. There is a sister piece to this called 'Elegies for Tom' and these are part of a bigger Thomas Hardy, poetry and music project. See here for more details.
The programme also showcases the wonderful combination of guitar and voice which has been a cornerstone of the vocal tradition since the renaissance.
Fundraising is ongoing but so far the project has been made possible by generous contributions from these institutions:
